What preferences German luxury tourists have

A new study shows that German luxury tourists attach great importance to five-star comfort, exclusive experiences and sustainability. They prefer luxurious accommodation such as villas and holiday homes, with a mix of traditional and modern elements.

Luxury cruises are also popular, with younger travellers under 30 preferring leisure cruises and the under 50s preferring expedition cruises. Young travellers are particularly interested in long-haul destinations such as the Caribbean, and a large proportion of Generation Z and millennials are investing in luxury experience products. The German luxury travel industry regularly reviews its sustainability credentials to fulfil the expectations of these customers.

Privacy and wellness are other important factors. Many Germans are planning to spend more on travel since the pandemic. Around 5.5 million luxury trips are forecast to take place in 2024, with an average spend of €8,800 per trip, and by 2030 the number could rise to seven million, with spending of up to €10,000 per trip.
