Minimum wage also in the hotel industry

From October 1, 2022, the new minimum wage of 12 euros will take effect, after the German government had already increased it to 10.45 euros in July. The hotel and catering industry will also be affected.

According to the IFO Institute, the industry is expecting a loss of profit, which will also be triggered by a drop in demand, as the increased costs have to be passed on. To compensate for this, companies want to make fewer special payments to their employees or reduce working hours, which in turn could have a negative impact on guests.

In the hotel industry, significantly fewer establishments are affected by the increase than in the catering industry, where around 78% of employees can look forward to a pay rise.
