The Radisson Hotel Group has expanded its offering in Italy. The Radisson Collection Hotel, Santa Sofia Milan opened in Milan. It is the second hotel of the luxury lifestyle brand in the northern Italian metropolis and the fifth Radisson Collection Hotel in Italy. Like the other hotels in the collection, it is housed in a special building: the former headquarters of Allianz Italia.
Over a period of four years, the architectural firm Studio Marco Piva transformed the former office building from the 1960s into a five-star luxury hotel. The original façade, clad in trachyte from Veneto, was preserved and accentuated with new exterior lighting. The characteristic roof with its oxidised copper slopes points to the building's architectural significance in Milan's cityscape.
The hotel's 159 rooms and suites were designed by Studio Marco Piva as small urban lofts with large windows as well as interior glass walls. Custom-made furniture, the combination of warm, natural materials such as wood and leather with glass and metal, and the colour palette of brown, black and dark navy blue are designed to create an atmosphere that reflects Milan's characteristic style.
Designed by Milanese designers AtelierP and Alessandro Cesario, the public interiors follow the design aesthetic of "elegant maximalism", as Radisson describes it. The geometric shapes are inspired by classic Milanese villas. In the hotel lobby and reception, in the adjacent co-working spaces and in the hotel's own restaurant "Sofia Kichten & Bar", contrasting elements from different eras are intended to offer a visual journey through Milanese history.
Sofia Kitchen & Bar is located in the former courtyard of the building, which is now covered by a glass roof. The restaurant includes a selection of Mediterranean dishes as well as international and European specialities. The bar offers a menu of Italian and international wines and a selection of Milanese cocktails. On the seventh floor of the hotel, the speciality restaurant "Issei Rooftop" is scheduled to open during April 2023. The "Issei" brand stands for Nikkei cuisine, a fusion of Japanese and Peruvian cuisine.
A new terrace has been created on the fourth floor of the hotel with an outdoor pool and lounge bar area that will be open during the warmer months. Hotel guests also have access to a 24-hour fitness centre and sauna.
