Starting January 2025, e-invoicing will become mandatory in Germany for VAT-registered businesses in the B2B sector. Paper invoices will be replaced by standardized electronic formats compliant with the European norm EN 16931, which outlines essential invoice details such as buyer and supplier information, tax data, and total amounts. Compatible formats like UBL and CII will ensure seamless processing across systems.
By 2025, businesses must be able to receive e-invoices, and from 2026, issuing and sending them will also be required. A two-year transition period allows paper invoices
with recipient approval. Hoteliers should prepare early to benefit from streamlined
processes and simpler tax handling.
